Calexico, California - El Centro Sector Border Patrol agents assigned to the Calexico station, arrested a man suspected of smuggling methamphetamine last Saturday afternoon.

The incident occurred at approximately 6 p.m., when agents observed a person in Mexico throw a package over the International Boundary Fence just near the Calexico Port of Entry.

When the subject saw Border Patrol agents approaching, he began to run. Agents arrested the man after a brief foot pursuit and recovered the package he received from Mexico.

The package was tested and the contents proved positive for the characteristics of methamphetamine.  The total weight of the package totaled 2 pounds, with an estimated street value of $5,300.   

The suspect was taken into custody and transported to the Calexico Border Patrol station for processing. 

The 27-year-old-man, a United States citizen, and narcotics were turned over to the Homeland Security Investigations for further investigation.  

In fiscal year 2018, El Centro Sector agents have seized more than 895.35 pounds of methamphetamine.
