Calexico, California - Border Patrol agents assigned to the El Centro Sector rescued a man drowning in the All-American canal.

The incident occurred Friday, April 13, at around midnight. A Border Patrol agent assigned to an area two miles west of downtown Calexico, heard an individual yelling for help and quickly responded.

Moments later, the Border Patrol agent observed an individual struggling in the canal to stay above water while shouting for assistance. Another agent also responded to the area to assist the drowning man.

One of the agents then retrieved a rescue device and threw it in the direction of the man in distress. The man was able to grab hold of the device and was consequently pulled out of the canal by both agents.

There were no injuries sustained and the individual declined medical attention.

“The U.S. Border Patrol is composed of dedicated men and women who everyday make the commitment to safeguard our nation’s borders and save the lives of those in need,” said El Centro Sector Chief Gloria I. Chavez.

The man was transported to the El Centro Station for further processing.
