Lake Tahoe, Nevada - Yesterday, the State of California and the U.S. Department of Interior signed a memorandum of understanding at the annual Lake Tahoe Summit that asserts the commitment to goals established by the State to protect the Salton Sea by accelerating conservation and exploring opportunities for geothermal development in the Salton Sea area.  This announcement comes on the deadline of the County of Imperial’s Solicitation of Interest for Dust Suppression Projects at the Salton Sea, a local initiative to assist the State of California’s administration in accomplishing Salton Sea restoration goals that were established in October 2015.

Imperial, California - The Imperial County Department of Public Works (ICDPW) closed Huff Road Bridge last week upon discovery of a sink hole for safety reasons until further notice.  The Huff Road Bridge runs over the Westside Main Canal, south of Payne Road, in Imperial, California.

El Centro, California - The Imperial County Registrar of Voters office is conducting an electronic survey to collect feedback from Imperial County residents about their recent voting experience during the June 7, 2016 Primary Election.  The survey can be accessed online at the County of Imperial’s webpage.

El Centro, California - Michael Horn has been the director of Behavioral Health for the past 17 years.  During his tenure, Horn has overseen a dramatic expansion of services to the Imperial County community. When he began as director the department had a staff of approximately 100 employees with about 1200 patients.  The department now has almost 500 employees and will see an estimated 7000 unduplicated patients in 2016.

Calexico, California - U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the El Centro station arrested a previously deported sex offender one mile West of the Calexico Port of Entry, Friday.

Ocotillo, California - El Centro Sector Border Patrol agents arrested a woman on Highway S-2, suspected of smuggling methamphetamine on Tuesday.
