Sacramento, California - Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. today announced the following appointments:
Teresa Marks, 58, of Little Rock, Arkansas, has been appointed chief deputy director at the California Department of Pesticide Regulation. Marks served as principal advisor to the administrator for unconventional oil and gas at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency from 2015 to 2016 and director at the Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality from 2007 to 2014. Marks held several positions in the Arkansas Attorney General’s Office from 1995 to 2007, including deputy attorney general in the Public Protection Department, senior assistant attorney general and assistant attorney general. She was supervising attorney at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock School of Law’s Legal Clinic from 1990 to 1995 and an associate at Steven Napper Ltd from 1988 to 1990. She and served as a deputy prosecuting attorney in the Office of the Pulaski County, Arkansas Prosecuting Attorney from 1984 to 1988 and was a teacher for the Tuckerman, Arkansas School District from 1980 to 1981. Marks earned a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock School of Law. This positon does not require Senate confirmation and the compensation is $143,160. Marks is a Democrat.
Antonette Cordero, 59, of Calabasas, has been appointed deputy director of the Hazardous Waste Management Program at the California Department of Toxic Substances Control. Cordero has served as a deputy attorney general in the Civil Rights Enforcement Section at the California Department of Justice, Office of the Attorney General since 2004, where she was a deputy attorney general in the Environment Section from 1988 to 1997. Cordero served as chief counsel at the California Department of Toxic Substances Control from 2001 to 2004, assistant county counsel in the Ventura County Counsel’s Office from 1997 to 2001 and was an associate at Hufstedler, Miller, Carlson and Beardsley from 1986 to 1988. Cordero was a George Slaff First Amendment fellow at the ACLU Foundation of Southern California from 1985 to 1986. She earned a Juris Doctor degree from Stanford Law School and a Master of Science degree in journalism from the Northwestern University School of Journalism. This position does not require Senate confirmation and the compensation is $150,864. Cordero is a Democrat.
Marcus A. Williams, 46, of Union City, has been appointed to the California State Rehabilitation Council. Williams has been military and disability recruitment programs leader for Kaiser Permanente since 2015. He was director of recruiting at Phacil Inc. from 2009 to 2015 and a recruiter at MediaCross Inc. from 2008 to 2009. Williams served active duty in the U.S. Navy from 1988 to 2008. He earned a Master of Business Administration degree in human resources management from Upper Iowa University. This position does not require Senate confirmation and there is no compensation. Williams is a Democrat.
Brian Cain, 72, of Cedarville, has been appointed to the 34th District Agricultural Association, Modoc District Fair Board of Directors, where he has served since 2006. Cain was a communication electrician at the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power from 1972 to 1998 and an avionics technician at Bendix-King from 1970 to 1972 and at Bay Air from 1968 to 1970. He is a member of the Klamath Solar Association Board and a radio technician at the Cedarville Township Volunteer Fire Department. This position does not require Senate confirmation and there is no compensation. Cain is a Republican.
Martha “Janeane” Bogner, 61, of Clearlake Oaks, has been appointed to the 49th District Agricultural Association, Lake County Fair Board of Directors, where she has served since 1992. Bogner has been owner at Weed Tech since 1983. She was bookkeeper at Freemark Abbey in 2007, owner at Five Star Fish Farm from 1978 to 1997 and secretary at Savings Bank of Mendocino County from 1972 to 1978. Bogner is a member of the Lake County Farm Bureau, Chapter 23 North of the Pearl Harbor Survivors Association, Lake County Chamber of Commerce, Clear Lake Chamber of Commerce and the Clearlake Oaks-Glenhaven Business Association. Marcia Chauvin, 77, of Clearlake, has been appointed to the 49th District Agricultural Association, Lake County Fair Board of Directors, where she has served since 2007. Chauvin was administrator and director at Vision21 from 2000 to 2007 and an administrative assistant at the Clearlake Church of the Nazarene from 1992 to 2007. She was owner at Quail Country Gifts from 1986 to 1991 and at T and M Sales from 1984 to 1986. Chauvin was assistant controller and office manager at Maggio Farms from 1979 to 1982. She is a member of Lake County Republican Women, Federated. This position does not require Senate confirmation and there is no compensation. Chauvin is a Republican.
James “Sham” Cochrane, 65, of Kelseyville, has been appointed to the 49th District Agricultural Association, Lake County Fair Board of Directors, where he has served since 2002. Cochrane has been an administrator and teacher for the Kelseyville Unified School District since 1979. He was a teacher for the Konocti Unified School District from 1978 to 1979. Cochrane is a member of the American Counseling Association, California Teachers Association and the National Educators Association. This position does not require Senate confirmation and there is no compensation. Cochrane is a Democrat.
Annette Hopkins, 69, of Lakeport, has been appointed to the 49th District Agricultural Association, Lake County Fair Board of Directors, where she has served since 2002. Hopkins was Lake County regional manager at the United Way of Sonoma, Mendocino and Lake Counties from 2000 to 2004, clinic manager at Doctors on Duty, Santa Cruz from 1997 to 1998 and manager at Arnold J. Kresch, M.D. from 1996 to 1997. She is a member of Lake County California Women for Agriculture, Soper-Reese Community Theater Fundraising Committee and Friends of Marymount California University Lakeside. This position does not require Senate confirmation and there is no compensation. Hopkins is registered without party preference.
Meyokeeskow “Meyo” Marrufo, 44, of Upper Lake, has been reappointed to the 49th District Agricultural Association, Lake County Fair Board of Directors, where she has served since 2007. Marrufo has been director at Guidiville Indian Rancheria since 2014. She was environmental director for the Hopland Band of Pomo Indians from 2011 to 2014 and interim environmental director and energy coordinator for the Robinson Rancheria of Pomo Indians from 2007 to 2010, where she was cultural resource manager from 1999 to 2007. Marrufo was owner at the Native Ways Gift Shop from 2004 to 2006 and director of National Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act Program from 2000 to 2004, where she was a project assistant from 1999 to 2000. She is the central California representative for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Regional Tribal Operations Committee. Jerry McQueen, 70, of Lakeport, has been appointed to the 49th District Agricultural Association, Lake County Fair Board of Directors, where he has served since 1998. McQueen has been owner at Northport Trailer Resort since 1988. He was owner at Lakeside Coin Laundries from 1989 to 2015 and a technician for General Electric from 1973 to 1988.
