Sacramento, California - Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. today announced the following appointments:
Gerardo Cornejo, 46, of Carpinteria, has been appointed to the 19th District Agricultural Association, Santa Barbara Fair and Exposition Board of Directors. Cornejo has been principal at Carpinteria High School since 2006. He served as an assistant principal for the Carpinteria Unified School District from 2002 to 2006, where he was a teacher from 1994 to 2002. Cornejo is a member of the National Association of Secondary School Principals. This position does not require Senate confirmation and there is no compensation. Gerardo is registered without party preference.
Carola Nicholson, 55, of Santa Barbara, has been reappointed to the 19th District Agricultural Association, Santa Barbara Fair and Exposition Board of Directors, where she has served since 2012. Nicholson has been a founding partner at Nicholson and Schwartz since 2000. She was a tax manager at Ernst and Young LLP from 1991 to 1999. She is a member of the California Society of Certified Public Accountants. This position does not require Senate confirmation and there is no compensation. Nicholson is a Democrat.
Robert Mathews, 50, of Blythe, has been appointed to the 54th District Agricultural Association, Colorado River Fair Board of Directors. Matthews has served as interim chief of police at the Blythe Police Department since 2014, where he has held several positions since 1993, including police lieutenant, police sergeant, senior police officer, patrol and senior police officer, detective. Mathews is a member of the California Police Chiefs Association, Riverside County Law Enforcement Administrators Association and the Blythe Police Activities League. This position does not require Senate confirmation and there is no compensation. Mathews is a Republican.
Kimberly Freeman, 48, of Los Angeles, has been appointed to the California Volunteers Commission. Freeman has been assistant dean for diversity initiatives and community relations at the University of California, Los Angeles Anderson School of Management since 2014. She was director of community relations for Sempra Energy from 2002 to 2014. Freeman was an adjunct professor at the University of Southern California, School of Public Policy from 2009 to 2010. She is a member of the Housing Authority of the City of Los Angeles Board of Commissioners and the Mount St. Mary’s University Board of Trustees. Freeman earned a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of California, Los Angeles Anderson School of Management and a Master of Public Policy degree from the University of Southern California, School of Public Policy. This position does not require Senate confirmation and there is no compensation. Freeman is a Democrat.
