Los Angeles, California - UCLA released this statement today in response to an announcement by the American Association for the Advancement of Science.

Professor Patrick Harran is widely recognized as one of the most creative and influential scientists in his field, and UCLA is deeply disappointed by AAAS’ decision to withdraw his fellowship. Although all concerned lament the tragic laboratory accident that occurred in 2008, Professor Harran’s work has important implications for cancer research and deserves recognition.
