Sacramento, California - Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. today announced the following appointments.
Richard Acosta, 65, of El Centro, has been reappointed to the 45th District Agricultural Association, California Mid-Winter Fair and Fiesta Board of Directors, where he has served since 2001. Acosta has been an insurance agent at Smith-Kandal Insurance and Real Estate since 1993. He was an insurance agent at Pan American Underwriters Inc. from 1976 to 1993. Acosta served in the California National Guard from 1969 to 1975. He was a member of the El Centro Union High School District Board of Trustees from 2009 to 2011, president of the El Centro Chamber of Commerce from 2002 to 2003 and is a member of the Rotary Club of Holtville. This position does not require Senate confirmation and there is no compensation. Acosta is a Democrat.
Darrel Bostic, 58, of El Centro, has been appointed to the 45th District Agricultural Association, California Mid-Winter Fair and Fiesta Board of Directors, where he has served since 2006. Bostic has been vice president at Black Dog Farms since 1994. He worked at the Mario Saikhon Farming and Agriculture Company from 1990 to 1994 and was an independent crop harvester from 1974 to 1990. Bostic is a member of Imperial County 4-H. This position does not require Senate confirmation and there is no compensation. Bostic is a Republican.
James Hamilton, 80, of Brawley, has been appointed to the 45th District Agricultural Association, California Mid-Winter Fair and Fiesta Board of Directors, where he has served since 2008. Hamilton was a credit manager at the Jordan Central Implement Company from 1997 to 2007 and at Puregro from 1985 to 1997. He was an accountant and office manager at the Quarles Oil Company from 1972 to 1985, branch manager at Avco Financial Services from 1965 to 1972 and office and credit manager at Firestone Tire and Rubber Company from 1958 to 1965. Hamilton served in the U.S. Army from 1956 to 1958. This position does not require Senate confirmation and there is no compensation. Hamilton is a Republican.
Sterling “Arkie” Mayes Jr., 71, of El Centro, has been appointed to the 45th District Agricultural Association, California Mid-Winter Fair and Fiesta Board of Directors. Mayes has been secretary-treasurer at the Imperial County Building and Construction Trades Council since 2007 and has been a quarter horse breeder since 1996. He was a pipefitter at the United Association of Plumbers and Pipefitters Local Union 230 from 1967 to 2007. Mayes is a volunteer at the Imperial County Sheriff’s Office and a member of the Imperial Moose Lodge and the Imperial Masonic Lodge. This position does not require Senate confirmation and there is no compensation. Mayes is a Democrat.
Joe Montenegro, 60, of El Centro, has been reappointed to the 45th District Agricultural Association, California Mid-Winter Fair and Fiesta Board of Directors, where he has served since 2000. Montenegro is district operations manager at the Southern California Gas Company, where he has held several positions since 1973, including field mechanic, quality assurance inspector and construction assistant. He is a member of the Kiwanis Club of El Centro and a volunteer at the Court Appointed Special Advocates of Imperial County, Child Abuse Prevention Council of Imperial County and the Mexican-American Women's National Association. This position does not require Senate confirmation and there is no compensation. Montenegro is a Democrat.
George Shropshire, 61, of Brawley, has been appointed to the 45th District Agricultural Association, California Mid-Winter Fair and Fiesta Board of Directors, where he has served since 2004. Shropshire has been a soil agronomist at the Helena Chemical Company since 1978. This position does not require Senate confirmation and there is no compensation. Shropshire is a Republican.
Antonio Tirado, 82, of Calexico, has been reappointed to the 45th District Agricultural Association, California Mid-Winter Fair and Fiesta Board of Directors, where he has served since 2012. Tirado served as a member of the Imperial County Board of Supervisors from 1999 to 2003 and the Calexico City Council from 1980 to 1994. He was a first sergeant in the California National Guard from 1950 to 1992 and a carrier for the U.S. Postal Service from 1952 to 1988.
