Sacramento, California - Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. today announced the following appointments.

Eric Arnold, 54, of Dixon, has been appointed warden at California State Prison, Solano, where he has served as acting warden since 2014 and was chief deputy warden from 2013 to 2014. Arnold was an associate warden at California Medical Facility, Vacaville from 2009 to 2013 and served as chief of the Classification Services Unit at the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, Division of Adult Institutions headquarters from 2007 to 2009. Arnold served in several positions at the California Medical Facility from 1990 to 2007, including facility captain, lieutenant, sergeant and correctional officer. Arnold was a correctional officer at Deuel Vocational Institution, Tracy from 1989 to 1990. This position does not require Senate confirmation and the compensation is $141,204. Arnold is a Republican.

Dean Borg, 52, of Sacramento, has been appointed deputy director of the Division of Facility Planning, Construction and Management at the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, where he has served as acting deputy director of the division since 2013 and was associate director from 2007 to 2013. Borg served in several positions at the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation from 1991 to 2007, including assistant deputy director at the Office of Facilities Management, chief of legislation for adult operations at the Office of Legislation, legislative coordinator at the Legislative Liaison Office and a manager of administration and planning and analyst at the Planning and Construction Division. Borg was a recycling specialist at the California Department of Conservation Beverage Container Recycling Program from 1987 to 1991. He earned a Master of Public Administration degree from the University of Southern California. This position does not require Senate confirmation and the compensation is $141,456. Borg is a Democrat.

Mark Ferron, 56, of Mill Valley, has been appointed to the California Independent System Operator Board of Governors. Ferron served as a member of the California Public Utilities Commission from 2011 to 2014, was a partner at the Silicon Valley Social Venture Fund from 2010 to 2014 and held several positions at Deutsche Bank from 1996 to 2009, including managing director and chief operating officer of the Global Markets Division. He was vice president at Salomon Brothers from 1994 to 1996 and at Bank of America from 1986 to 1994. Ferron earned a Master of Arts degree in economics from Stanford University. This position requires Senate confirmation and the compensation is $20,000, in addition to per diem meeting preparation and attendance expenses. Ferron is a Democrat.

Greg Beroza, 55, of Palo Alto, has been reappointed to the Alfred E. Alquist Seismic Safety Commission, where he has served since 2013. Beroza has been co-director at the Southern California Earthquake Center since 2014, where he was deputy director from 2007 to 2014, and has been a professor at the Stanford University School of Earth, Energy and Environmental Sciences Department of Geophysics since 1990, where he was chair from 2008 to 2013. He is chair of the U.S. Geological Survey Advanced National Seismic System National Steering Committee and president of the American Geophysical Union Seismology Section. Beroza earned a Doctor of Philosophy degree in geophysics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. This position requires Senate confirmation and the compensation is $100 per diem. Beroza is a Democrat.

Randall Goodwin, 58, of Davis, has been reappointed to the Alfred E. Alquist Seismic Safety Commission, where he has served since 2013. Goodwin has served in several positions for the City of West Sacramento since 2000, including city architect and building official. He was design department manager and architect at the Ridge Building Group from 1997 to 2000 and an architect and general contractor at Goodwin Kain Designers and Builders from 1991 to 1997. Goodwin is president at the Sacramento Valley Association of Building Officials, a member of the American Institute of Architects and an accredited LEED professional. This position requires Senate confirmation and the compensation is $100 per diem. Goodwin is a Democrat.

Tracy Johnson, 52, of Oakland, has been reappointed to the Alfred E. Alquist Seismic Safety Commission, where she has served since 2013. Johnson has been acting assistant superintendent of way and facilities at the Bay Area Rapid Transit District since 2012, where she was a seismic engineering manager from 2007 to 2012. She was a project manager at URS Corporation from 2001 to 2006 and at Seismic Engineering Products LLC from 1997 to 2001. Johnson is a member of the Women’s Transportation Seminar and the Earthquake Engineering Research Institute. She earned a Master of Science degree in civil and environmental engineering from the University of Wisconsin, Madison. This position requires Senate confirmation and the compensation is $100 per diem. Johnson is a Democrat.

H. Kit Miyamoto, 52, of Davis, has been reappointed to the Alfred E. Alquist Seismic Safety Commission, where he has served since 2011. Miyamoto has been president at Miyamoto Global Disaster Relief since 2011 and at Miyamoto International since 1990. Miyamoto earned a Doctor of Engineering degree in structural engineering from Tokyo Institute of Technology and a Master of Science degree in civil engineering from California State University, Sacramento. This position requires Senate confirmation and the compensation is $100 per diem. Miyamoto is a Republican.

Ian Parkinson, 50, of San Luis Obispo, has been reappointed to the Alfred E. Alquist Seismic Safety Commission, where he has served since 2014. Parkinson has served as sheriff at the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office since 2011. He served as police captain at the San Luis Obispo Police Department from 1988 to 2011 and was a police officer at the Morro Bay Police Department from 1984 to 1988. Parkinson is a member of the California State Sheriffs’ Association. This position requires Senate confirmation and the compensation is $100 per diem. Parkinson is a Republican.

Fuad Sweiss, 56, of Orinda, has been reappointed to the Alfred E. Alquist Seismic Safety Commission, where he has served since 2013. Sweiss has been city engineer and deputy director of public works for the City and County of San Francisco since 2009. He was president at Access Design and Construction from 2006 to 2008 and served in several positions at the City of Oakland Public Works Department from 1988 to 2006, including engineering design manager. Sweiss is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, American Public Works Association, Construction Management Association of America and the U.S. Green Building Council. This position requires Senate confirmation and the compensation is $100 per diem. Sweiss is a Democrat.
