Cathedral City, California - The City of Cathedral City recently became 700 acres bigger with the final approval from the Riverside Local Agency Formation Commission. At the request of Mr. Bill Messenger of SDC Ventura, LLC, Cathedral City annexed his unincorporated property into the City limits.
The 700 acres stretch along the north side of Interstate 10 and generally south of Varner Road. It also extends approximately 2.5 miles from DaVall Drive easterly to Bob Hope Drive and Rio Del Sol Road.
With the completion of the annexation process, the North City Extended Specific Plan approved by the City Council in 2014 allows for a mixed use community that will be phased in over the next 20 years.
“This is a historic milestone for Cathedral City,” stated Leisa Lukes, Economic Development Manager who worked with the property owner during the annexation process. “We have an opportunity to bring in over 300,000 square feet of retail and commercial space, 200,000 square feet of office space, 600,000 square feet of light industrial space, and 3,200 residential dwellings that will allow nearly 10,000 more people to call Cathedral City, home.”
The first phase calls for retail commercial and hotel development for 9 acres located on the eastern side of the new City limits directly adjacent to Rio del Sol.
