Berkeley, California - It’s never too soon to start making plans for summer fun - and around Berkeley, that means camp. Got a young camper or three? We’ve got you covered. Artist? Ditto. Science fanatic, swimmer, writer or computer nerd? You get the idea.
UC Berkeley offers dozens of options for families seeking eager to enrich their kids’ lives over the summer. Camps cover all ages, pretty much all sports, classroom subjects and outdoor activities.
For example, kindergarteners and 1st graders can become “Dinosaur Detectives” in one of the Lawrence Hall of Science’s many camps; fifth to seventh graders can learn animation.
For the academically minded, the Academic Talent Development Program offers enrichment courses in mathematics, science, writing, computers, and more for younger kids, and enrichment and accelerated academic courses in writing, fine arts, languages, math, computer science, social science, and natural science for seventh graders and beyond.
Adventures range from sailing, kayaking and rock climbing to a design academy and a business academy.
The choices can be browsed in the University Health Service’s summer camp directory, which has information about registration, costs and links to the various programs.
Registration is already open for some of the programs, and they fill up fast.
