Sacramento, California - Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. Thursday announced that he has signed tribal-state gaming compacts between the State of California and the Big Valley Band of Pomo Indians of the Big Valley Rancheria and the Torres Martinez Band of Desert Cahuilla Indians, as well as an amendment to the current tribal-state gaming compact with the Habematolel Pomo of Upper Lake.
The compacts with Big Valley and Torres Martinez further the parties’ mutual interest in improving the quality of life of tribal members though a framework that generates revenue for tribal governmental programs while also fairly regulating the gaming activities; affording meaningful consumer and employee protections; and, mitigating the off-reservation impacts of the gaming facility.
The amended compact with the Habematolel Pomo of Upper Lake conforms the provisions of its 2011 compact regarding workers’ compensation and labor relations to those of more recent compacts.
