Washington, DC - Ambassador William R. Brownfield, Assistant Secretary of State for the Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL), will travel to southern California February 8-10, where he will launch a partnership with the nation’s largest local prosecutorial agency, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office, address the American Correctional Association’s 2015 Winter Conference, and conduct meetings with various domestic and international law enforcement officials.
While in Los Angeles, Assistant Secretary Brownfield will sign a partnership agreement with the Los Angeles County District Attorney. Under this partnership, INL will utilize the expertise of the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office to combat transnational crime and build partner-nation capacity to establish rule of law and effective law enforcement overseas.
At the American Correctional Association conference in Long Beach, Assistant Secretary Brownfield will present New Mexico Corrections Department Secretary Gregg Marcantel with the Secretary’s Award for Excellence in Overseas Criminal Justice Assistance and address leading domestic and international corrections officials.
Assistant Secretary Brownfield will also meet California Attorney General Kamala Harris and San Diego Chief of Police Shelley Zimmerman, visit the Port of Long Beach, and engage with local media regarding U.S. efforts.
