Sacramento, California - Governor Gavin Newsom today announced that the state has secured a Fire Management Assistance Grant from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to help ensure the availability of resources to fight the Saddleridge Fire burning in Los Angeles and Ventura counties. The grant also enables local, state and tribal agencies to recover eligible costs.

Sacramento, California - Building on budget investments in gun violence prevention, Governor Gavin Newsom today signed a package of 15 bills aimed at strengthening gun violence protections. The bills strengthen gun violence restraining orders, regulate ghost guns to mitigate the use of untraceable firearms by criminals, and will prohibit the sale of firearms and ammunitions at the Del Mar Fairgrounds in the County of San Diego, the City of Del Mar and the City of San Diego starting next year.

Sacramento, California - Governor Gavin Newsom today announced the first proposed affordable housing development sites as part of his Excess Land for Affordable Housing executive order. The first Request for Proposal (RFP) on state-owned land will be issued in the City of Stockton to create affordable housing opportunities for low-income and middle class Californians who are struggling in the housing crisis.

Sacramento, California - Governor Gavin Newsom today signed AB 378 by Assemblymember Monique Limόn (D-Santa Barbara) giving child care workers the right to join a union and collectively bargain with the state. This legislation will allow an estimated 40,000 child care workers who provide care in home settings to join care providers in 11 other states who are able to negotiate with the state for improvements to the early childhood education system.

Sacramento, California - Governor Gavin Newsom today signed into law three bills that focus on improving protections for California’s workers around mental health and post-traumatic stress for the state’s firefighters and first responders. The bills will create peer support programs, add post-traumatic stress suffered on the job as an “injury” for worker’s compensation purposes and ensure emergency services remain under public management for appropriate and consistent response to emergency situations.

Sacramento, California - U.S. Attorney McGregor W. Scott and Special Agent-in-Charge Sean Ragan of the FBI’s Sacramento Division Thursday announced that the independent federal review into the fatal shooting of Stephon Clark on March 18, 2018, found insufficient evidence to support federal criminal civil rights charges against the Sacramento Police Department officers involved. Officials from the U.S. Attorney’s Office and the FBI met today with Clark’s family to inform them of this decision.
