Washington, DC - The United States and the Republic of the Philippines held the seventh Bilateral Strategic Dialogue from November 30-December 1, 2017, in Washington, D.C. Acting Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs Susan Thornton and Acting Assistant Secretary of Defense for Asian and Pacific Security Affairs David Helvey co-led the U.S. delegation. Washington, DC - The Department of State welcomes today’s entry into force of the Ross Sea Region Marine Protected Area, the world’s largest marine protected area (MPA). The Ross Sea in Antarctica is an area of unique biodiversity and one of the last unspoiled marine environments on the planet. This MPA will create special long-term opportunities for protecting marine life and for promoting marine scientific research.

Washington, DC - While Puerto Rico is making progress in its effort to recover from the devastation left by the hurricanes, it remains a long process and there’s a lot of work left to do. At the FDA, we’re vigilant about helping address the challenges that remain. Power is being restored across the island and, importantly, some major medical product manufacturing facilities are coming back online and stabilizing their production. However, until the grid is reliably restored, many firms will continue to run on generator power or require generators as a backup and production levels will not return to their baseline levels.
