Cambridge, Massachusetts - About 80 percent of studies of U.S. medical interventions use randomized controlled trials (RCTs), the gold standard of laboratory research. But only about 18 percent of studies of U.S. health care delivery use RCTs. That can and should change, suggests Amy Finkelstein, the Ford Professor of Economics at MIT, in a Science piece co-written with MIT researcher Sarah Taubman. If so, they assert, researchers who find new ways of applying RCTs to our medical system will be able to produce compelling answers to pressing questions.

Nashville, Tennessee - The American Heart Association/American Stroke Association (AHA/ASA) and Medtronic plc (NYSE: MDT), today announced a collaboration to reduce the rate of recurrent strokes in the U.S. The two organizations will work together over several years to educate, raise awareness and support effective management of patients who have strokes, one of the most devastating diseases affecting Americans today. The initiative, announced at the American Stroke Association’s annual International Stroke Conference in Nashville, Tennessee, will focus on reducing strokes of unknown cause, called "cryptogenic stroke."
