USDA Provides Greater Protection for Fruit, Vegetable and Other Specialty Crop Growers

Washington, DC - Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack announced that greater protection is now available from the Noninsured Crop Disaster Assistance Program for crops that traditionally have been ineligible for federal crop insurance. The new options, created by the 2014 Farm Bill, provide greater coverage for losses when natural disasters affect specialty crops such as vegetables, fruits, mushrooms, floriculture, ornamental nursery, aquaculture, turf grass, ginseng, honey, syrup, and energy crops.

Washington, DC - In this week’s address, the President thanked the men and women in uniform who serve and sacrifice to protect the freedom, prosperity, and security that we all enjoy as Americans. On Monday the President will visit troops at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst in New Jersey and voice his appreciation in person for their incredible service. These troops, as well as the many who are still overseas, have met every mission they have been tasked with, from bringing a responsible end to our war in Afghanistan, to working to degrade and ultimately destroy ISIL, to saving lives by fighting to contain the spread of Ebola.

Washington, DC - U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer (D-CA) today praised the Senate’s passage of the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2015, which includes a provision based on her legislation to improve training for military sexual assault forensic examiners. The bill was approved by the House last week and now goes to President Obama for his signature.
