Washington, DC - My wife and I were walking an Appalachian path a few months back when a poisonous copperhead snake struck at my wife. The snake was big. My wife was carrying pepper spray and amazingly with one quick move sprayed that deadly serpent. The snake was stunned as we lunged forward to safety. We were so very lucky. Either one of us could have died or lost a limb if that poisonous serpent had been successful. Journalists and cartoonists in a French newsroom were not so lucky this week. They were totally caught off guard by striking terrorists that ended their unsuspecting lives.

State Schools Chief Tom Torlakson Announces Winners of Broadband Grants

California Department of Public Health Confirms Measles Cases

Sacramento, California - California Department of Public Health (CDPH) has been notified of seven confirmed cases of measles in patients from five different locations within California it was reported today by Dr. Ron Chapman, CDPH director and state health officer. Two Utah resident cases have also been confirmed and three additional California residents are also suspected to have measles and are under investigation.
Pennsylvania Firm Recalls Chili Products

Washington, DC - Fresh Food Manufacturing, a Freedom, Pennsylvania establishment, is recalling approximately 35,865 pounds of chili products due to misbranding and an undeclared allergen, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced today. The product contains peanuts, a known allergen which is not declared on the product label.
