Sacramento, California - Assemblymember Eduardo Garcia (D-Coachella) voted today in support of the California Fair Pay Act (SB 358), which was authored by Senator Hannah-Beth Jackson (D-Santa Barbara). The bill would revise the California Equal Pay Act to prohibit employers from paying employees wage rates less than the rates paid to employees of the opposite sex for “similar work” as opposed to the current standard of “equal work.”

Sacramento, California - A dangerous disease, west Nile virus, has returned to California this summer. The disease has been detected in four horses - two in Riverside County, one in Tehama County, and one in Shasta County. Two of the horses have died and the other two are recovering.

Washington, DC - Today the U.S. Food and Drug Administration issued warning letters to three tobacco manufacturers - ITG Brands LLC, Santa Fe Natural Tobacco Company Inc., and Sherman’s 1400 Broadway N.Y.C. Ltd. - who describe their cigarettes on product labeling as “additive-free” and/or “natural.” The warning letters are for violations of section 911 of the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act (FD&C Act).
