Sacramento, California - Governor Gavin Newsom today announced the following appointments:

Laura Moskowitz, 47, of Oakland, has been appointed deputy secretary for policy at the California Labor and Workforce Development Agency. Moskowitz has been an attorney at the California Labor Commissioner’s Office since 2018. She was a senior attorney with the U.S. Department of Labor from 2012 to 2018, where she served as an attorney from 2009 to 2012 and as a senior policy advisor detailed to the White House Domestic Policy Council in 2014. She was a staff attorney at the National Employment Law Project from 2006 to 2009 at Community Legal Services Inc. from 2003 to 2006 and at the U.S. Court of Appeals, Second Circuit from 2001 to 2003. Moskowitz earned a Juris Doctor degree from Northeastern University School of Law. This position does not require Senate confirmation and the compensation is $165,000. Moskowitz is a Democrat.

Crystal Page, 36, of Winchester, has been appointed deputy secretary for communications at the California Labor and Workforce Development Agency. Page has been director of communications for Service Employees International Union California since 2018, where she was communications coordinator from 2015 to 2017. She was communications director at the Center on Policy Initiatives from 2012 to 2015, digital media coordinator at Good Jobs LA from 2011 to 2012 and associate producer for Brave New Films and Foundation from 2009 to 2011. Page earned a Master of Fine Arts degree in film production from the University of Southern California. This position does not require Senate confirmation and the compensation is $138,360. Page is a Democrat.

Christopher Shultz, 46, of Sacramento, has been appointed chief deputy commissioner at the California Department of Business Oversight. Shultz has been chief deputy director at the Department of Consumer Affairs since 2017. He was deputy commissioner for community programs and policy initiatives at the California Department of Insurance from 2011 to 2017. He was legislative director in the Office of Assemblymember Dave Jones from 2009 to 2010, where he served as chief of staff from 2004 to 2006. Shultz was public affairs director at the Ulum Group Public Relations and Public Affairs from 2006 to 2009, capitol office director for State Senator Dede Alpert from 2002 to 2004 and technology policy coordinator at the Office of the Secretary for Education from 2000 to 2001. This position does not require Senate confirmation and the compensation is $168,000. Shultz is a Democrat.

Kaina Pereira, 39, of Elk Grove, has been appointed deputy director of business investment services at the Governor's Office of Business and Economic Development, where he has served as acting deputy director since 2019. Pereira has been assistant deputy director of business investment services at the Governor's Office of Business and Economic Development since 2018. He was a business and real estate consultant at Harris Care Centers from 2012 to 2018, a financial strategist and e-commerce manager for Styles for Less Inc. from 2006 to 2011 and a senior contracts administrator at Autoweb.com from 2005 to 2006. Pereira earned a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of California, Davis. This position does not require Senate confirmation and the compensation is $132,000. Pereira is registered without party preference.
