Washington, DC - For days now, millions have been threatened by Hurricane Dorian. Endangering Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands, it appears to have left a devastating impact in the Bahamas. Now, communities across Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, and North Carolina are under evacuation orders as they prepare for potential impact. Our hearts go out to each family impacted by this dangerous storm.

The American Red Cross has worked tirelessly to prepare for Hurricane Dorian’s impact here in the US and will continue to do so in the days ahead. Millions of people live in areas that could be impacted by wind, rain, flooding and high storm surge, even if the storm doesn’t make direct landfall.

Today, more than 1,900 Red Cross Disaster Responders, of which 90% are volunteers, are on the ground in threatened communities ready to help.  Planning estimates indicate that 60,000 people in Florida, Georgia, South Carolina and North Carolina may need our help; we have mobilized the supplies and support to deliver that aid. Your gift will make a tremendous difference as we prepare for and respond to this historic storm.
