Ontario, California - Prime Healthcare Services, Inc., Prime Healthcare Foundation, Inc., and Prime Healthcare Management, Inc. (collectively Prime), and Prime’s Founder and Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Prem Reddy, have agreed to pay the United States $65 million to settle allegations that 14 Prime hospitals in California knowingly submitted false claims to Medicare by admitting patients who required only less costly, outpatient care and by billing for more expensive patient diagnoses than the patients had (a practice known as “up-coding”), the Justice Department announced today. Under the settlement agreement, Dr. Reddy will pay $3,250,000 and Prime will pay $61,750,000.

San Francisco, California - On July 26, a federal grand jury in San Francisco indicted former Bay Area resident Michael James Frew charging him with wire fraud, mail fraud, and money laundering announced Acting United States Attorney Alex G. Tse, Federal Bureau of Investigation Special Agent in Charge John F. Bennett, and Acting Special Agent in Charge Internal Revenue Service (IRS-CI) Tara Sullivan. The indictment was unsealed today following Frew’s arrest in Beatty, Nevada, on the charges.

Fairfield, California - The California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA), the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and the Solano County Agricultural Commissioner’s office have eradicated a Mediterranean fruit fly (Medfly) infestation centered in and around the City of Fairfield, ending a 108-square-mile quarantine that began September 25, 2017. A total of ten flies were detected.
