West Lafayette, Indiana - The United States celebrated entrepreneurs and their startups during National Small Business Week, May 5-8, including those companies based on intellectual property. Intellectual property includes creative works, inventions and other products of human intellect and imagination. Protecting intellectual property could be the first step in delivering it to the public as new products and processes.

Washington, DC - The Mohammed cartoon event recently held in Garland, Texas was a demonstration of free speech. People gathered to showcase their cartoons of Islam's Mohammed. Cartoons of Mohammed are commonly known to incite people of the Islam religion. I don't know of any Christians who like cartoons of Jesus if they depict Jesus in an irreverent way. I do not embrace anything about Islam. I do embrace their United States freedom to peacefully practice their religion. I am abhorred by militant Islam religion.
Retirement is just a dream for many in the workplace

Washington, DC - America's workers are too busy looking for jobs to think much about the prospects of retiring. One of the longest, slowest and weakest post-recession recoveries has decimated the work force. Record numbers of people have stopped looking for jobs out of despair, skewing government unemployment reports. And, a recent Gallup poll reported that 60% of those currently in the workforce don't believe they'll ever receive Social Security when they come of age.

San Francisco, California - Attorney General Kamala D. Harris today announced an $11.5 million settlement with Phillips 66 and ConocoPhillips. The settlement resolves law enforcement allegations that the companies violated state laws governing the proper operation and maintenance of underground storage tanks used to store gasoline for retail sale. The companies failed to comply with hazardous materials and hazardous waste laws at over 560 gasoline stations owned or operated by the companies in the state of California.
