Harris today announced that the California Department of Justice and the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Department have completed a two-day sweep to remove firearms from individuals legally barred from possessing them, including persons determined to be mentally unstable and those with active restraining orders against them.
Bird Watching Opportunities Offered in Merced, Santa Barbara and Yolo Counties

Sacramento, California - The California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) is offering special bird watching opportunities through its Shared Habitat Alliance for Recreational Enhancement (SHARE) Program. A total of 22 SHARE access permits will be awarded through a random drawing for 19 bird watching periods on properties in Merced, Santa Barbara and Yolo counties.

Sacramento, California - Saving endangered species from extinction takes a lot of work, but you don’t have to do much to help. Simply making a voluntary contribution on your state income tax return helps the California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) do the heavy lifting. Just enter a whole dollar amount on line 403 for the Rare and Endangered Species Preservation Program, and on line 410 for the California Sea Otter Fund.
White House Announces 2016 Easter Egg Roll

Washington, DC - The President and First Lady announced today that the South Lawn of the White House will be opened up for children 13 years and younger and their families on Monday, March 28th for the 2016 White House Easter Egg Roll. This will be the final Easter Egg Roll of the Obama Administration, and will feature live music, sport courts, cooking stations, storytelling and, of course, Easter egg rolling. In honor of the First Lady’s Let’s Move! initiative, this year’s event will also include the first-ever White House Fun Run.
President Obama to Designate New National Monuments in the California Desert

Washington, DC - President Obama designated three new national monuments in the California desert, encompassing nearly 1.8 million acres of America’s public lands. Building on the Administration’s commitment to protect our land and water for future generations, today’s designations will nearly double the number of acres of public lands previously protected as national monuments by President Obama demonstrating the Administration’s strong commitment to aggressive action to protect the environment for future generations.
