Assistant Secretary Nuland Travel to Cyprus and France

Washington, DC - Today, Assistant Secretary for European and Eurasian Affairs Victoria Nuland will travel to Nicosia, Cyprus, where she will meet with officials of the Cypriot Government to discuss further advancing U.S.-Cypriot relations, as well as regional issues. She will also meet with Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot leaders to convey continued U.S. support for a fair and lasting settlement of the Cyprus problem through the process facilitated by the UN Secretary-General’s Good Offices Mission. In addition, the Assistant Secretary will meet with UN Special Advisor Espen Barth Eide.

Washington, DC - Converting a single photon from one color, or frequency, to another is an essential tool in quantum communication, which harnesses the subtle correlations between the subatomic properties of photons (particles of light) to securely store and transmit information. Scientists at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) have now developed a miniaturized version of a frequency converter, using technology similar to that used to make computer chips.
