Riverside, California - A total of seven California horses have tested positive in recent weeks for West Nile Virus, with six of the cases in the Central Valley and one in Riverside County. Two of the horses were euthanized due to the severity of their symptoms.

Austin, Texas - Yesterday, the Texas Advanced Computing Center (TACC) at The University of Texas at Austin (UT Austin) launched Frontera, the fastest supercomputer at any university and the fifth most powerful system in the world. The system is the result of a $60 million investment by the National Science Foundation (NSF) to advance the next generation of leadership class computing.

San Juan Capistrano, California - The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has warned Stemell, Inc. (Stemell), of San Juan Capistrano, California, and its president and Chief Executive Officer, Peyman Taeidi, Ph.D., for manufacturing and distributing unapproved products derived from umbilical cord blood and umbilical cord and for significant deviations from current good tissue practice (CGTP) and current good manufacturing practice (CGMP) requirements, including deficient donor eligibility practices and environmental monitoring, creating potential significant safety concerns that put patients at risk. Stemell’s unapproved products derived from umbilical cord blood and umbilical cord are StemL UCB-Plus and StemL UCT-Plus.

Ag barometer declines sharply as commodity prices weaken; majority of farmers expect MFP payments in 2020

Chicago, Illinois - The Purdue University/CME Group Ag Economy Barometer weakened significantly in August to a reading of 124, down 29 points from July. The barometer is based on a mid-month survey of 400 agricultural producers across the U.S. and was conducted Aug. 12-20, with nearly all of the responses collected following USDA’s release of the August 12 Crop Production report.
