Selma to Montgomery Voters Registration Month Kick-Off

White Hall, Alabama - As the nation commemorates the 50th Anniversary of Bloody Sunday and the Selma-toMontgomery Voting Rights March, elected officials from communities along the Selma-to-Montgomery National Historic Trail will join Montgomery Mayor Todd Strange, Selma Mayor George Evans and White Hall Mayor James Walker on Friday, February 20, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. CST to kick-off National Voter Registration Month with an event at the Selma to Montgomery NHT - Lowndes Interpretive Center as a tribute the foot soldiers of the Civil Rights movement.

Washington, DC - This week, the White House is convening a three-day summit on Countering Violent Extremism (CVE) to bring together local, federal, and international leaders - including President Obama and foreign ministers – to discuss concrete steps the United States and its partners can take to develop community-oriented approaches to counter hateful extremist ideologies that radicalize, recruit or incite to violence. Violent extremist threats can come from a range of groups and individuals, including domestic terrorists and homegrown violent extremists in the United States, as well as terrorist groups like al-Qaeda and ISIL.
