Washington, DC - The United States welcomes the signing yesterday by the opposition and other stakeholders of the South Sudan peace agreement. However, we are deeply disappointed that the Government of South Sudan under President Kiir yet again squandered the opportunity to bring peace to their people by refusing to sign the agreement. The U.S. deplores this failure of leadership.
Special Envoy Thomas Perriello Returns to the African Great Lakes Region

Washington, DC - Special Envoy for the Great Lakes Region of Africa Thomas Perriello will return to the region on August 18 to visit Rwanda, Tanzania, the Democratic Republic of the Congo (D.R.C.), and Angola. The Special Envoy's trip will focus on upcoming elections in the region in furtherance of President Obama's policy in support of democratic transitions. Special Envoy Perriello will also engage regional leaders on continued efforts to address the deteriorating situation in Burundi.
Governor Signs Garcia’s Workforce Training Grant Bill

Sacramento, California - Governor Brown signed the Workforce Investment for the Re-Entry Population (AB 1093) bill today, which was authored by local Assemblymember Eduardo Garcia (D-Coachella). The legislation modifies the criteria for the Supervised Population Workforce Training Grant Program and allows grant applicants to address the education and training needs of people who have some postsecondary education or individuals who require basic education.
FDA approves first treatment for sexual desire disorder

Washington, DC - The U.S. Food and Drug Administration today approved Addyi (flibanserin) to treat acquired, generalized hypoactive sexual desire disorder (HSDD) in premenopausal women. Prior to Addyi’s approval, there were no FDA-approved treatments for sexual desire disorders in men or women.
