Rochester, Minnesota - The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has approved Addyi (flibanserin) – making it the first and only drug designed to help increase women's sexual desire. Mayo Clinic Women's Health Clinic director Stephanie Faubion, M.D., says while Addyi won't benefit every woman, it will offer a much-needed treatment option to help premenopausal women with hypoactive sexual desire disorder, or HSDD.

San Francisco, California - Illumina, Inc., Warburg Pincus and Sutter Hill Ventures announced Tuesday that they have formed a company to empower consumers to discover insights into their own genomes through a vibrant ecosystem of high-quality content partners. The company, called Helix, is based in the San Francisco Bay Area and received financing commitments in excess of $100 million. Jay Flatley, CEO of Illumina, will serve as Chairman of the Board.
Back to School: Know the Warning Signs of Bullying

Rochester, Minnesota - For many children, the start of a new school year can be very stressful, especially if they've been victims of bullying in the past. Mayo Clinic Children's Center psychologist Dr. Bridget Biggs says parents and caregivers should know the warning signs. "If your child is reluctant to go to school, stressed after spending time online or avoids social situations, he or she may be being bullied." Dr. Biggs points out that consequences of bullying can be serious. Victims are at increased risk of depression, anxiety, sleep problems, self-harm, poor grades and in rare cases, suicide.
