Secretary of State John Kerry Travels to Milan, Paris, and Madrid

Washington, DC - U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry will travel to Milan, Italy, on October 16, to deliver remarks in commemoration of World Food Day and visit the USA Pavilion at Milan EXPO 2015. While in Milan, the Secretary will also meet with Italian Foreign Minister Paolo Gentiloni to discuss the bilateral relationship, as well as global and regional issues.

Washington, DC - Ambassador Richard Olson will succeed Dan Feldman, who concluded his tenure September 18, as U.S. Special Representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan (SRAP). Ambassador Olson will assume his responsibilities as SRAP on November 17, after concluding his service as the U.S. Ambassador to Pakistan. As were his predecessors, Ambassador Olson will be responsible for developing and implementing policies and programs that support U.S. national security interests in promoting stability and increasing prosperity in Afghanistan and Pakistan.

Sacramento, California - During the first two weeks of November, the California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA) will present three workshops and two webinars on the 2016 Specialty Crop Block Grant Program (SCBGP) competitive solicitation process. Workshops will feature an overview of the program, a review of the concept proposal questions, a live demonstration of the online application system, helpful grant writing tips and more. All prospective SCBGP applicants are encouraged to participate.

Washington, DC - Drug overdose is the leading cause of injury death in the United States – mostly due to abuse and misuse of prescription opioid pain relievers, benzodiazepines (sedatives/tranquilizers), and stimulants. Information from state prescription drug monitoring programs (PDMPs) can be used to detect and measure prescribing patterns that suggest abuse and misuse of controlled substances, according to a report released today in the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report (MMWR) Surveillance Summary.
