San Diego, California - The San Diego FBI is now accepting FBI Teen Academy applications.

THE FBI TEEN ACADEMY

The FBI Teen Academy is an opportunity for students to spend an interactive day with special agents and professional staff at the FBI building in Sorrento Valley. Students will participate in both classroom and hands-on activities while learning about the FBI’s core values. For example, classes will offer an insider’s look at FBI investigations into gangs, drugs, and terrorism as well as involve discussions about the FBI’s use of computer forensics in cyber investigations. Students will also gain hands-on experience in areas such as crime scene and forensic techniques as well as tactical operations. Students will engage in candid conversations with FBI staff about online communication and its risks as well as lifestyle choices required to be eligible for careers at the FBI.

After completing the class, students will be more aware of the challenges their communities face and better understand how the FBI protects and serves their community. Teen Academy graduates are encouraged to mentor their peers by sharing the knowledge they have gained through this FBI experience.

ELIGIBILITY

The FBI Teen Academy is open to high school sophomores or juniors enrolled in a public, private, charter, or home school program. The applicant must currently attend school within San Diego or Imperial County to be eligible to apply to the San Diego FBI Teen Academy.

TEEN ACADEMY CLASS DATES

FBI San Diego’s 2018 Teen Academy will take place on June 25, 2019 and July 23, 2019, at the San Diego Field Office in Sorrento Valley.

APPLICATION PROCESS

The FBI’s Teen Academy application process allows for the identification of a diverse pool of students who are capable leaders and have an interest in the FBI. An essay is required of all applicants. The essay should provide insight into the student’s motivations for attending the Teen Academy as well as address the student’s expectations of the Teen Academy. All applications should highlight the student’s school activities and community involvement, which will be an important part of the criteria used to evaluate the applicants.

Applications, supporting essay, and release form must be received by the FBI San Diego field office by April 15, 2019. Incomplete and late applications will not be accepted.
