Washington, DC - U.S. Chamber of Commerce Executive Vice President and Head of International Affairs Myron Brilliant released the following statement on the news that the updated text of the EU-U.S. Privacy Shield Agreement is being presented to the EU’s Member States:

“The Chamber urges the Article 31 Committee to quickly offer a positive endorsement, followed by a swift vote by the College of Commissioners to finalize the Privacy Shield adequacy decision. Companies of all sizes and sectors on both sides of the Atlantic, well beyond just the tech industry, rely on data transfers to offer the products and services that businesses and consumers need. Prompt action is needed to ensure these benefits continue to flow.

“We applaud Secretary Pritzker and her team at the U.S. Department of Commerce and their counterparts at the European Commission for their hard work addressing concerns raised by the Member States’ Data Protection Authorities. The Privacy Shield agreement provides welcome reassurance that data will remain protected while preserving the commercial data flows that are critical to economic growth.”
