Washington, DC - The heads of the antitrust agencies of the United States and Japan met today in Washington for their 35th Bilateral Competition Consultation. Federal Trade Commission Chairwoman Edith Ramirez and Principal Deputy Assistant Attorney General of the U.S. Department of Justice’s Antitrust Division Renata Hesse participated in high-level meetings with Japan Fair Trade Commission (JFTC) Chairman Kazuyuki Sugimoto and a delegation of officials from the JFTC.

Sacramento, California - Quarantines are now in place in both Merced and Monterey Counties due to recent Asian citrus psyllid (ACP) detections. One ACP was detected near the City of Merced in Merced County and two ACP in one trap within the City of Salinas in Monterey County.

Washington, DC - Whether they’re made of leather or metal, people have been using tape measures for a long time. The first spring-loaded metal tape measure was invented and patented in England in 1829. Alvin Fellows of New Haven, Connecticut, made improvements to that design, including the locking mechanism that stops the tape from retracting until you want it to, and received a patent on July 14, 1868, a date that is now celebrated by tape-measure enthusiasts like myself as National Tape Measure Day.
