Washington, DC - Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary Francisco L. Palmieri will travel to Guyana December 5-7 to participate in the annual Caribbean Nations Security Conference (CANSEC), co-hosted by the Commander of U.S. Southern Command and the Chief of Staff for the Guyana Defense Force.  CANSEC will bring together more than 50 key U.S. and Caribbean senior defense and law enforcement representatives to unify regional action to counter transnational and trans-regional threat networks.

The conference will develop mechanisms for greater security coordination, improve information sharing, and support mutual security goals as underscored in the Caribbean 2020 strategy.

During his visit to Guyana, the Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary will also meet with government officials and civil society representatives to discuss issues of bilateral and regional interest.
