Washington, DC - Secretary of State John Kerry: "The American people stand with the people of Bosnia and Herzegovina as we mark the 21st anniversary of the Srebrenica genocide on July 11.

"We honor the memory of the more than 8,000 men and boys who perished, and we pay tribute to their families who still seek justice.

"Remembering this horrific crime is important, but what is most essential is to stop anything similar from happening again.

"All those responsible for the massacre must be held accountable. The remains of the last victims need to be identified and buried with dignity so their families and loved ones can begin to heal. And the leaders of Bosnia and Herzegovina must come together to move their country forward, promote social cohesion, good governance and economic prosperity, and allow the children and grandchildren of the Srebrenica generation to build strong communities and lead safe and secure lives.

"The memory of what happened in Srebrenica should strengthen our resolve to settle differences peacefully and with respect for the fundamental dignity of every person, regardless of nationality, race, gender, or creed.

"The United States deeply values its friendship with all the people of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

"On this day of shared remembrance, we look forward to continuing our mutual efforts with them in support of a future characterized by steady political, economic and social progress."
