El Centro, California - Today, the Imperial County Board of Supervisors approved expenditures from the Clean Air Funds and for the Imperial County Air Pollution Control District (ICAPCD) to sign agreements for services with Green Station, LLC and SA Recycling for the Lawn Equipment Exchange Program (LEEP) event to take place later this month in El Centro.

“I am delighted to support the LEEP event and the Air Pollution Control District’s continued efforts to protecting and enhancing the air quality of Imperial County,” said Chairman Jack Terrazas, District 2 Supervisor.  “This event is a wonderful opportunity for Imperial County residents to LEEP into action and assist in reducing air pollution.”

Using a typical gas mower for one year can pollute as much as a car driven for 22,000 miles; therefore the purpose of the event is to replace high polluting lawn gas equipment with environmentally friendly electric lawn equipment.  The ICAPCD will conduct the LEEP event on May 21, 2016 at SA Recycling in El Centro from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., where residents can turn in their gasoline-powered lawn equipment and purchase new rechargeable electric lawn equipment at a discounted price, made possible through the ICAPCD $200 rebate per exchanged piece of equipment.

For those interested in participating, pre-registration is required.  Additionally, participants must be at least 18 years of age, exhibit proof of Imperial County residency, and bring a copy of their reservation form.  There is a limit of one mower, trimmer, and leaf blower per household.
