Calexico, California - U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the Calexico Station arrested a previously deported convicted sex offender approximately 18 miles east of the Calexico port of entry on Sunday.

A 40-year-old man was apprehended by Border Patrol agents after he illegally entered into the United States.  Agents later identified the man as Jacinto Mendoza-Jimenez, a citizen of Mexico.

Criminal record checks revealed that Mendoza is a convicted sex offender with statutory sodomy and child molestation convictions out of the state of St. Louis on May 4, 2004.  Mendoza was removed from the United States after he served a six-year prison term.

Border Patrol has Mendoza in custody and he will be presented for criminal prosecution for re-entry into the Unites States after being previously removed.
