Calexico, California - Monday, U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the Calexico Station arrested a previously deported convicted sex offender near the downtown area approximately one mile west of the Calexico port of entry.

The 41-year-old man was apprehended by Border Patrol agents while attempting to illegally enter into the United States and was later identified as Eloy Chavez-Loviano, a citizen of Mexico.

Criminal record checks revealed that Chavez is a convicted sex offender charged for sex with a minor three years old or younger.  Chavez was convicted for his sex offenses and sentenced to serve one year in prison on October 10, 2001 in Fresno.

Chavez was also convicted for the sale of narcotics while in possession of a firearm and was sentenced to two years in prison.  Chavez has immigration convictions and was previously removed from the U.S. in July of 2014.

Chavez is in Border Patrol custody and will be processed and prosecuted for re-entry after previously being removed.
