Ocotillo, California - El Centro Sector Border Patrol agents arrested a woman on Highway S-2, suspected of smuggling methamphetamine on Tuesday.

The incident occurred at approximately 2:15 p.m., after a 35-year-old woman, in a 2012 silver Chrysler 200 was stopped on Highway S-2. A Border Patrol detection K-9 team conducted a sniff of the vehicle that produced a positive alert.

After an intensive search, agents discovered 40 packages, wrapped in black electrical tape, of methamphetamine hidden inside the rocker panels of the vehicle.

The methamphetamine weighed 52.14 pounds with an estimated street value of $208,560.

The woman, a citizen of the United States, the vehicle, and narcotics were turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration for further investigation.

From Oct. 1, 2015 through Jul. 31, 2016, El Centro Sector had 15,386 apprehensions and seized more than 1,198 pounds of methamphetamine.
