Sacramento, California - Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. today issued the following statement regarding the death of San Jose Police Department Officer Michael Katherman:

“Anne and I extend our deepest condolences to the family, friends and fellow officers mourning the tragic loss of Officer Katherman, who will be remembered for his brave and dedicated service to the community.”

Officer Katherman, 34, was fatally injured in a traffic collision in San Jose yesterday while riding on his department-issued motorcycle.

Officer Katherman served as a member of the San Jose Police Department for 11 years and is survived by his wife, April, and two children.

In honor of Officer Katherman, Capitol flags will be flown at half-staff.
