Sacramento, California - Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. today issued the following statement regarding the death of Downey Police Department Officer Ricardo Galvez:

“Anne and I were saddened to learn of the death of Officer Galvez and extend our condolences to his family, friends and the entire law enforcement community in this difficult time.”

Officer Galvez, 29, of Whittier, was sitting in his personal vehicle in a Downey Police Department parking lot late Wednesday night when he was shot and killed.

Officer Galvez was a five-year veteran of the Downey Police Department and previously served in the U.S. Marine Corps. He is survived by his mother, Margarita Galvez, two sisters and a brother, who also works for the Downey Police Department.

In honor of Officer Galvez, Capitol flags will be flown at half-staff.
