Sacramento, California - Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. today announced the appointment of Raimundo J. Montes De Oca to a judgeship in the Santa Barbara County Superior Court.

Montes De Oca, 67, of Carpinteria, has served as the Santa Barbara County Public Defender since 2011 and has served in several positions at the Santa Barbara County Public Defender’s Office since 1979, including assistant public defender and deputy public defender. He served as a deputy public defender in the Pima County, Arizona Public Defender’s Office from 1977 to 1979 and from 1973 to 1975. Montes De Oca earned a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Arizona College of Law and a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of California, Santa Barbara. He fills the vacancy created by the retirement of Judge Frank J. Ochoa. Montes De Oca is registered without party preference.
