Washington, DC - Secretary of State John Kerry: "On behalf of President Obama and the people of the United States, I wish you the best during your Independence Day celebrations on November 3. This year, more than ever, the United States stands with you as you recover from the damage caused to your beautiful nation by Tropical Storm Erika.

"Thirty-seven years ago you started your democratic journey as an independent state. From that day forward, our countries have shared a firm commitment to democracy, peace, and human development. Today, we continue to work together to provide greater economic opportunities for our peoples, to promote educational and cultural exchanges, to enhance the safety of our citizens, and to improve preparedness for natural disasters. I am confident that the friendship between our governments and our citizens will deepen even further over time.

"The United States, and countries around the hemisphere, continue to admire the resilience and indomitable spirit of Dominica’s people. We offer our best wishes to you on this important occasion, and our hopes for a very bright future."
