Washington, DC - An Ecuadorian and Italian national was sentenced Tuesday to 51 months in prison for his role in a scheme to launder bribes paid to him in exchange for helping three U.K. reinsurance companies obtain and retain reinsurance business from Ecuador’s public surety company. 

Detroit, Michigan - The United States has filed four civil injunction suits in federal court in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan. The suits seek to enjoin a Detroit-area tax preparation franchisor from owning, operating and franchising tax preparation businesses and to prohibit the franchisor, as well as certain others that have agreements to operate using her business’s name, from preparing tax returns for others. The complaints also request that the court require all defendants to disgorge the return preparation fees they obtained by preparing allegedly false and fraudulent tax returns.

Miami, Florida - A Florida medical doctor was sentenced to 63 months in prison after pleading guilty to her role in a scheme to falsify clinical trial data regarding an asthma medication. 

Washington, DC - After nearly two years of legal proceedings, Mun Chol Myong (Mun), 55, a national of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK), has been extradited to the United States. This case represents the first ever extradition to the United States of a DPRK national. Mun is accused of laundering money through the U.S. financial system as part of a scheme to provide luxury items to the DPRK.

San Diego, California - The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) San Diego Violent Crimes Task Force and San Diego Police Department are seeking the public’s assistance to identify the individual believed to be responsible for a bank robbery in San Diego, California.

Victorville, California - A former Bureau of Prisons (BOP) correctional officer at the Federal Correctional Complex, Victorville was sentenced Wednesday to 15 months in federal prison for accepting more than $15,000 in cash bribes in exchange for smuggling contraband – including methamphetamine and cell phones – into the complex’s high-security penitentiary.
